So… Why Am I Creating This Series?
Honestly, I don’t think most people know a whole lot about foster care when they first start this journey. I know I definitely didn’t.
Before we started the licensing process, I tried researching foster care online… and whew. Some of the information felt so overwhelming I could barely process it, while other parts felt cold, clinical, heavy, and honestly kind of lonely.
Like: ‘Here’s 47 pages of trauma information. Good luck.’ 😅
And listen — foster care IS serious. Kids in care have often been through incredibly difficult situations. This path deserves honesty, patience, and a willingness to learn.
But I also believe people need a space where foster care is explained in simple, real, human terms.
That’s where I hope this little corner of the internet can be different.
Foster Care Is A Lot More Complicated Than I Expected
I created this Foster Care 101 mini-series to share the things I’m learning along the way in a down-to-earth, honest, and hopefully less intimidating way.
Because I was right where some of you might be now: ‘I think I want to foster… but how does any of this actually work?
And honestly? There’s SO much people don’t realize about foster care before stepping into it. The paperwork. The emotions. The waiting. The uncertainty. The acronyms nobody explains. The fact that half the time you’re trying to figure things out while simultaneously questioning your sanity. 😅
I don’t want to be a barrier of bad news, but I also believe people deserve honesty about what they’re walking into.
Not to scare you away… but to help educate, prepare, encourage, and maybe make this journey feel a little less overwhelming and alone.
I Want This Space To Feel Different
That’s really the whole reason I created this Foster Care 101 mini-series in the first place.I
f sharing what I’m learning along the way can help even one person feel more informed, prepared, or supported while considering the foster care journey, then this little series will have served its purpose.
I also plan to slowly add helpful resources and printable tools into Jades Cozy Nook for those brave enough to step into the foster care journey themselves—because foster parents need support too.
And who knows… maybe together we can help a few more people feel brave enough to step into a role that is so deeply needed.
