Preparing for a Foster Placement: The Waiting Game (So Naturally… We Tore Apart the Bathroom 😅)

The Waiting Part Nobody Talks About

So I wanted to give a little update on our foster parent journey…

Crickets….

No calls. No “Hey, are you available?”

Just me… checking my phone every five minutes like it’s suddenly going to grow legs and come find me.

We’re officially heading into our 5th week of being active and waiting for a foster placement—which, for anyone who doesn’t know, basically means:

You’re ready… now sit and wait and try not to lose your mind.

So naturally, instead of relaxing like a normal person…

I decided this was the perfect time to start updating the house while we wait for a foster placement.

In my last post, I mentioned we were finishing updating the house while we wait for the call…

and we’ve actually made some progress.

The kitchen is done (minus the trim… we’re ignoring that part for now )…
so we’re calling that the second room checked off.

And now… onto the bathroom.

What have we been doing while waiting for a foster placement? Glad you asked

So here we are.

My house?

Absolute chaos.

I am currently elbow-deep in primer, paint, and questionable life choices—working on the bathroom like I suddenly signed up for a home renovation show.

And listen… on paper?

“Paint the bathroom” sounds easy.

In reality?

Not even a little.

Because of course… nothing is ever just painting.

We quickly realized our pipes were basically from another century (okay, slight exaggeration… but still), so now we’re replacing them.

Which means…

We are now learning plumbing.

From scratch.

With zero experience.

Just vibes, YouTube, and a whole lot of “does this look right to you”?   conversations.

And then I thought…

“Hey, while we’re at it, let’s replace the vanity and the light fixture too!”

Because why not make this even more interesting?

We haven’t even gotten to that part yet… but I already know it’s going to be a whole experience.

Like… the kind where you start confident and end up sitting on the floor questioning your life choices.
The best part?

Me and my husband going into this like:

“We got this.”

Do we?

Debatable.

But hey—by the end of this, we will at least have some plumbing knowledge under our belt… whether we wanted it or not.

All jokes aside though…

This is just where we’re at right now in the foster care waiting process.

Waiting.

Preparing.

Trying to make our home feel ready and peaceful for a child who could come into our lives any day… or any week… or whenever the system decides.

And that waiting?

It’s weird.

You want to be ready.

You feel ready.

But you also have no control over when life is going to change.

So your brain goes:

“Well… since we can’t control that…
let’s just tear apart the bathroom.”
Makes perfect sense, right?

So for now…

We’re focusing on what we can control.
Preparing our home for a foster child.
Making it feel warm.

Making it ours.

Even if that means living in a bit of chaos in the meantime.

And who knows…

Maybe the call will come right when we’re in the middle of installing a vanity or covered in paint.

Honestly? That would be about right.

Until the next update…
have a blessed day
