The Cookies We Keep Coming Back To
Some recipes end up becoming part of your family without you even realizing it… and these cookies are one of those recipes for us.
I first came across them when my oldest daughter had to take a class in high school called Intro to Foreign Cultures. The students learned about different cultures throughout the year, and after each section they had to either make or bring something connected to that culture.
My daughter chose Amish culture since it’s also part of our background, which meant we suddenly needed a recipe that was actually doable for me to bake. 😅 After scrolling Pinterest forever, we landed on these Chocolate Chip Amish Sugar Cookies.
And let me tell you… these cookies surprised me.
They’re soft, fluffy, buttery, packed with chocolate chips, and somehow not overly sweet at the same time. They taste almost like a mix between a sugar cookie and a chocolate chip cookie — which honestly feels like the best combination possible.
We made enough for her class and, of course, had to “taste test” a few first for quality control. 😂
By the end of the night we were hooked. The teacher even asked for the recipe, and these cookies have been one of our family favorites ever since.
Now they’re the cookies we make during the holidays, random baking days, or honestly whenever we’re craving something cozy and homemade.
Why We Love These Cookies
- Soft and fluffy texture
- Not overly sweet
- Packed with chocolate chips
- Perfect with coffee or milk
- Feels homemade and cozy in the best way

A Few Notes
These cookies stay good for about a week in an airtight container, though they’re definitely best within the first few days.
They also freeze really well, which makes them perfect for baking ahead during the holidays.
And fair warning… they disappear fast in this house. 😅
If you try them, I’d genuinely love to hear what you think because these cookies became one of our favorites completely by accident.
Until next time, have a blessed day.
