Preparing for a Foster Placement: Apparently Waiting Is Not My Strength šŸ˜…

The Waiting Game Nobody Warns You About

Waiting around for the placement call?

Yeah… that’s for the strong.

And I’d like to say I was strong…
but let’s be honest—I might’ve been for like the first two… maybe three weeks of this foster care waiting process.

Now we’re heading into the end of week five of waiting for a foster placement, and somewhere along the way, I’ve learned a little more patience.

(Not.) šŸ˜‚

Instead, I’ve been over here stressing out my poor husband—

who, for the record, is not a handyman.
I mean… I didn’t marry him for his plumbing skills.

I married him for his looks. šŸ’ā€ā™€ļø
But hey—he’s learning.

And honestly? He’s doing pretty good.

He basically replaced most of the bathroom pipes by himself… which is HUGE.

Like… I’m impressed and also slightly shocked.

His current ā€œhoney-doā€ list while we’re preparing our home for a foster child?

1.Install the vanity (the pipe situation was a surprise bonus project)

2.Replace the kitchen sink

3.Put up the trim in the kitchen

You know… just a few small, totally normal, not-at-all stressful tasks. šŸ˜…

It’s all new to him… and he’s slowly getting it done.

Meanwhile, I’m just over here like:
ā€œWe have to finish this before the phone rings.ā€

Because at this point, it feels like a game.

How much of this house can we finish… before we get the call for a foster placement?

How much of this house can we finish before we get the call for a foster placement?

That’s the strange thing about waiting for a foster placement — life doesn’t stop while you wait.

And just to add a little extra emotion into the mix…

My oldest is going to college.

Yes.

I will absolutely be having a full emotional breakdown about that.
But not yet.

That’s August Jade’s problem. 😭

So for now…

I’m going to do my best to:

Not stress out my husband

Not start another random project
And maybe… just maybe… learn how to sit still while we wait for this life-changing phone call

(We’ll see how that goes.)

Because even though this part of the foster care journey is all about waiting…
we’re doing our best to make sure our home is ready when that call finally comes.

Until the next update…

Have a blessed day šŸ’›
